With just three days to go for its theatrical arrival, Cocktail 2 has crossed a major final hurdle, and its censor details are already drawing attention. The Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna starrer has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification with no visual cuts, while a few audio and subtitle level modifications were made before the film locked its 2 hour, 29 minute runtime.
A Certificate, 149 Minute Runtime And Audio-Only Changes For Cocktail 2
The film was granted an A certificate on June 16, 2026. Its certified runtime stands at 149.19 minutes, which translates to 2 hours, 29 minutes and 19 seconds. That gives Cocktail 2 a full scale theatrical runtime as it heads into cinemas on June 19.
The biggest takeaway from the censor process is that the CBFC left the visuals untouched. The board only asked for a few dialogue and subtitle changes before granting certification. A cuss word appearing in the subtitle was removed, and the word “Agni” was replaced with “Diya” wherever it appeared in the film.
Another modification involved the phrase “Jew on the run”, which was censored before the film received clearance. With those audio changes in place, the film completed certification and moved ahead with its A rating.
Homi Adajania Revisits Cocktail With A New Relationship Spiral
Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, with Maddock Films and Luv Films backing the project. The film is written by Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan, and serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 romantic drama Cocktail. Pritam Chakraborty has composed the music.
The film’s official listing describes the setup as: “Diya and Kunal, whose long relationship and cosy life gets shaken when Diya’s old friend Ally enters the scene.” The phrasing in the listing points to the emotional triangle at the center of the story, with a settled relationship thrown off balance by a disruptive return.
The first Cocktail, released in 2012, starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, and emerged as a commercial success. This sequel keeps Adajania’s relationship driven lens intact while introducing a fresh trio, and its censor clearance now puts the spotlight squarely on how Shahid Kapoor fronts this new chapter at a crucial moment in his theatrical run.
Why This Cocktail 2 Release Matters In Shahid Kapoor’s Current Run
For Shahid Kapoor, Cocktail 2 arrives as a significant theatrical move. He was last seen on the big screen in Deva in 2025, after leading the 2024 romantic sci-fi drama Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya opposite Kriti Sanon. Before that, he headlined the action thriller Bloody Daddy in 2023, which premiered on JioCinema.
That recent mix of action, romance and OTT exposure gives Cocktail 2 added importance. The film places him back in a relationship led mainstream entertainer, a space that has often delivered some of his most visible audience connect. He also featured in O’Romeo earlier in 2026, making Cocktail 2 his next release this year.
With certification complete and the release date locked for June 19, Cocktail 2 now stands as Shahid Kapoor’s immediate theatrical test, carrying both franchise curiosity and the pressure of delivering a star led Hindi romance in a closely watched market.
