Dharma Productions’ next with Aditya Roy Kapur is quietly turning into one of the more intriguing genre packages in development right now. The film, which brings Aditya into the horror space under Karan Johar’s banner, is now being shaped as a slasher comedy, leaning into a self-aware tone that plays with horror tropes while still delivering the chills.
While Dharma has not made a formal announcement on key creatives yet, the latest movement around the director’s chair signals that the studio is keen on mounting this one with a very specific flavour: sharp satire, punchy humour, and stylised gore, rather than a conventional straight-up horror thriller.
Latest Update
As per reports in Variety India, Collin D’Cunha has been approached to direct Aditya Roy Kapur’s Dharma Productions film, with the project being described as an unconventional slasher comedy. The film is expected to blend satire, witty dialogue, gore, and deliberately heightened performances, suggesting a playful, genre-bending treatment rather than a traditional scare-fest.
Earlier, a source had described how Aditya came on board, saying, “Karan Johar has locked a horror thriller for his banner, Dharma Productions and has roped in Aditya Roy Kapur to play the lead character. Adi read the script and didn’t take long to come on board. It’s a unique project, and everyone at Dharma is bullish about the theatrical prospects of the genre.”
The same source had also indicated that groundwork is already underway, adding, “The prep work has already begun at Dharma, but the director’s name has been kept under wraps for now”.
As of now, the film remains in the early stages, with pre-production in motion and the female lead still in the process of being finalised. The project is expected to go on floors in May 2026, placing it firmly on Dharma’s 2026 pipeline.
Aditya Roy Kapur’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Aditya was last seen in the crime thriller Gumraah (2023), where he took on a double role opposite Mrunal Thakur, and in the espionage series The Night Manager (2023) on Disney+ Hotstar, co-starring Anil Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala. On the big screen, he is also part of Anurag Basu’s ensemble romance Metro…In Dino, co-starring Sara Ali Khan alongside an ensemble cast that includes Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher.
With the Dharma slasher comedy now taking shape as a distinct genre pivot, the actor’s next phase appears geared toward mixing mainstream scale with offbeat choices.
