Controversial Film Punjab ‘95 Starring Diljit Dosanjh To Release In Theatres Without Any Cuts Suggested By CBFC?

Diljit Dosanjh starrer Punjab 95 is set to release in theatres without any cuts. CBFC initially demanded 120 edits to the film.

Diljit Dosanjh‘s much-awaited film Punjab 95 is finally set for a theatrical release without any cuts. This comes after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) initially demanded 120 edits. The film, a powerful biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, faced backlash when CBFC’s demands became public.

Khalra’s wife, Paramjit Kaur, slammed the board’s decision, insisting the film should be released as it was made with the family’s approval.

Punjab ‘95 To Release In February Without Any Cuts

Fans and the Khalra family can now breathe a sigh of relief as the latest update confirms Punjab 95 will be released unchanged.

In December 2024, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) gathered historians to verify the film’s accuracy. SGPC’s General Secretary, Gurucharan Singh Grewal, praised the film and said, “I have watched the film, and it doesn’t target anyone at all. It shows the truth of Punjab in an unadulterated fashion. It’s a heart-wrenching movie. When I watched it, I had tears in my eyes.”

Jaswant’s daughter, Navkiran, shared her happiness about the film’s release and told Mid-Day, “It’s a story that needs to be told, and we’re grateful. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the film releases this time.”

Last month, reports claimed that CBFC hadn’t certified the film yet. However, things now look promising. A source shared, “The makers are seeing some hope after the Akal Takht and SGPC have decided to watch the film. It has now reached a point that the makers are contemplating not making any cuts to the film at all, including the original 22 cuts suggested by the CBFC.”
