THIS Director To Helm Gully Boy 2 With Vicky Kaushal & Ananya Panday Expected To Play The Leads, BUT…!

Gully Boy 2 is reportedly being planned with Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday, but nothing is confirmed - can it match the success of the original?

Six years after the release of Zoya Akhtar‘s Gully Boy, the film still holds a special place in the hearts of fans. The 2019 musical drama, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, told the inspiring story of Murad Ahmed, an aspiring street rapper from Mumbai’s Dharavi slum.

Inspired by real-life rappers Divine and Naezy, the film became a cultural phenomenon and won multiple awards. Now, reports suggest that a sequel is in development, and it could feature Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday in lead roles.

If confirmed, this project would mark the first collaboration between Vicky Kaushal and Ananya Panday.

Vicky Kaushal & Ananya Panday In Talks For Gully Boy 2

The sequel is reportedly set to be directed by Arjun Varain Singh, known for his recent work on Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. A source shared with Filmfare, “Arjun Varain Singh, who directed Kho Gaye Hum Kahan for Excel and Tiger Baby, is slated to direct the Gully Boy sequel. He’s confident that Ananya, who was his heroine in Kho Gaye, will be the perfect girl to lead the project. Vicky has been attached to the sequel for a long time now. Let’s see if all these three artists can come together to recreate the magic of Gully Boy.”

As for the original cast, it seems unlikely that Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, or Siddhant Chaturvedi will reprise their roles or make cameo appearances. However, there is speculation that a third instalment could explore a crossover, although nothing is certain yet. The makers have not released any official confirmation about the sequel.

About The 1st Instalment

Gully Boy was celebrated for its raw and authentic portrayal of Mumbai’s underground rap scene. Ranveer Singh’s performance as Murad Ahmed, a young man battling personal and societal challenges, resonated deeply with audiences. With support from MC Sher, played by Siddhant Chaturvedi, Murad rose through underground rap battles to gain recognition. The film won 13 Filmfare Awards and was praised for its music, direction, and performances.

Vicky Kaushal-Ananya Panday’s Work Front

Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal is preparing for his upcoming period drama Chhaava, where he plays Maratha king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar and co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, is scheduled for release on February 19, 2025, aligning with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.

Ananya Panday is also busy with her next project Chand Mera Dil, a romantic drama opposite Kill actor Lakshya. Directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film is expected to release in 2025.

Coming back to the sequel reports, do you think Gully Boy 2 can be a HIT just like its first instalment?
