Nawazuddin Siddiqui is back with a new role and he’s going all in this time. He drops the one-liners and picks up the badge in Costao, an upcoming crime drama on ZEE5.
After weeks of teasing with intense posters, the makers finally revealed the teaser on April 14. But not everyone’s impressed.
Costao Teaser OUT
The teaser runs for 1 minute and 37 seconds. It shows Siddiqui as a brave customs officer from Goa. His life takes a dark turn after he goes up against the state’s biggest smuggler. The makers call it “a story of bravery and sacrifice.” But online reactions say otherwise.
Director Sejal Shah and producer Vinod Bhanushali bring this story to life. They take inspiration from the real story of Mr. Costao Fernandes. In the 90s, Fernandes was a bold officer who disrupted a massive gold smuggling operation. His solo mission shook Goa’s crime world at the time.
The teaser sets the tone with gritty visuals, coastal backdrops, and slow-mo shots. The background score tries to build tension, but doesn’t quite land. Siddiqui brings his usual intensity, but the teaser still feels like a repeat of crime thrillers we’ve seen before. Lone hero? Check. Big mission? Check. Personal cost? Also check.
Some viewers liked the idea but felt the pacing was off. One YouTube comment read, “The premise is cool, but the pacing felt off.” Others praised Siddiqui’s acting, but said the teaser lacked impact. Many also felt the editing didn’t build enough tension for a high-stakes story.

About The Film
Siddiqui leads a strong cast that includes Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar Huli, Gagan Dev Riar, and Hussain Dalal. The film is produced by Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui. Bhanushali Studios Limited and Bombay Fables Motion Pictures are backing the project.
Costao tells the story of a forgotten hero who went all out to stop a major smuggling ring. “Costao is inspired by a real-life solo mission that changed the game in the 90s,” said the makers.
The film will stream on ZEE5, but the team hasn’t announced a release date yet.
