The Sourav Ganguly biopic Dada is getting a distinctly Bengal rooted emotional spine. With Rajkummar Rao already on board to play the former Indian cricket captain, the Vikramaditya Motwane directorial has now added Saswata Chatterjee to its ensemble, bringing in one of Bengali cinema’s most dependable performers for a key family role.
Saswata Chatterjee Boards Dada As Chandi Ganguly
Saswata Chatterjee has joined Dada as Chandi Ganguly, Sourav Ganguly’s father. The actor is part of the film’s ongoing Mumbai schedule, where the team is currently filming portions connected to Ganguly’s personal life and family history.
The casting update also places Aparajita Auddy and Rahul Dev Bose in the family circle of the film. Aparajita plays Sourav Ganguly’s mother, Nirupa Ganguly, while Rahul Dev Bose essays his elder brother, Snehashish Ganguly. A source connected to the production was quoted as saying, “All three actors are currently shooting in Mumbai. Dada was present on set during the shoot on Sunday. The production team will shoot in Kolkata from the end of this month”.
Rajkummar Rao had earlier marked the beginning of the shoot through a social media post, writing, “And it begins … The one and only #DADA @souravganguly @motwayne #LuvRanjan @gargankur82 @luv_films”. The post also featured a glimpse of the clapperboard, confirming that the film had moved from announcement to active production.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and backed by Luv Films, Dada is a sports biographical drama built around Sourav Ganguly’s journey from a young cricketer to one of India’s most influential captains. As of May 22, 2026, the film is in production and no theatrical release date has been officially announced.
The film stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role, with Saswata Chatterjee, Aparajita Auddy and Rahul Dev Bose now forming the central family ensemble. Tanya Maniktala is also attached to play Dona Ganguly, bringing focus to the personal relationships that shaped Ganguly’s life beyond cricket.

Saswata Chatterjee has remained active across Hindi, Bengali and Telugu projects over the past few years, steadily expanding his pan Indian presence. In 2024, he appeared in the Hindi theatrical release Crew as Vijay Walia and in the Telugu spectacle Kalki 2898 AD as Commander Manas. His Bengali releases that year included Shastri and Jamalaye Jibonto Bhanu.
On streaming, he featured in The Night Manager on Disney+ Hotstar and Tooth Pari: When Love Bites on Netflix in 2023, while his Bengali OTT work included Abar Proloy on ZEE5. In 2025, he was seen in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter on Netflix and had film credits including The Eken: Benaras e Bibhishika, Metro… In Dino, Dear Maa, The Bengal Files and Akhanda 2: Thaandavam.
Among his confirmed upcoming projects after May 2026 are the Bengali films Hok Kolorob, Mon Maaney Na and Roktofolok, along with Abar Proloy 2 for ZEE5. With Dada, he now steps into another high visibility Hindi project anchored in a story with strong Bengali identity.
