Deepika Padukone’s name has been circling Hollywood’s prestige TV conversation for weeks, but the buzz has now hit a clear pause. As of February 27, 2026, the actor is no longer being considered for a role in HBO’s acclaimed series The White Lotus, with the latest update pointing to a key sticking point: the show’s casting process.
The development comes amid speculation that Padukone could feature in a future season of the Mike White created anthology, a franchise known for its tightly guarded casting and an ensemble that mixes global stars with buzzy discoveries. This time, however, the discussions appear to have ended before they could move into any final stage.
The Latest Update
The report states that auditions are mandatory for The White Lotus roles, and that requirement is what ultimately stalled this possible collaboration. An industry source was quoted saying, “Auditions are a mandatory part of the casting process for The White Lotus. The makers were very keen on auditioning actors before signing them on. Deepika was not keen on auditioning and that was the reason why the White Lotus opportunity had to be passed.”
Notably, the report also flags that this is not the first time Padukone has been linked to the series. Her name was connected to the show during the development phase of Season 3 as well, but that round did not materialise either.
Neither Padukone nor the makers of the series have publicly commented on the development so far.
While the global conversation around her casting may cool off for now, Padukone’s international profile is hardly new. She made her Hollywood debut with xXx: Return of Xander Cage, sharing screen space with Vin Diesel, before pivoting back to a packed run of Indian tentpoles.

Over the last few years, Padukone has stayed firmly in the big event movie lane. She appeared in Pathaan (2023) opposite Shah Rukh Khan, had a special appearance in Jawan (2023), and headlined Siddharth Anand’s Fighter (2024) with Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor. In 2024, she also played a pivotal role in Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD alongside Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, and featured in Rohit Shetty’s ensemble cop universe film Singham Again (2024).
On the confirmed upcoming front, she is set to reunite with Shah Rukh Khan for Siddharth Anand’s King, which also stars Suhana Khan.
