Malamaal Weekly 2 In The Works, Paresh Rawal Gives Nod As Talks Begin With Riteish Deshmukh And Rajpal Yadav

Bollywood’s comedy pipeline is getting busier as the industry leans into familiar, family-friendly laughter for the next wave of big-screen entertainers. Now, a title that still enjoys strong recall two decades later is gearing up for a return. Malamaal Weekly 2 is officially in the works, with the makers initiating early conversations with key cast members from the 2006 hit.

Latest Update On Malamaal Weekly 2

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that talks have begun for Malamaal Weekly 2, and the team behind the project has cracked what is being described as a “great idea” suited to expand the franchise. The most notable creative detail is that this is not being mounted as a direct sequel. Instead, the film is expected to introduce a different set of characters and a new setting while retaining the original’s central comic engine: a group of greedy villagers going to unbelievable lengths to get their hands on a large sum of money.

On the casting front, Paresh Rawal has already given his nod, though he has not signed the contract yet. Discussions are also underway with Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav, both of whom featured in Malamaal Weekly and are now being approached again as the second instalment gathers momentum.

The 2006 film, directed by Priyadarshan, revolved around a village spiralling into chaos after the discovery that a lottery ticket worth Rs. 1 crore belongs to a man who has died. As the residents scramble to claim the money and hide the death from the lottery inspector, the plot snowballed into a classic farce. Along with Paresh Rawal, Riteish Deshmukh and Rajpal Yadav, the original cast also included Om Puri, Reema Sen, Shakti Kapoor, Sudha Chandran, Asrani, Rasika Joshi and Innocent.

Riteish Deshmukh’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Over the last few years, Riteish Deshmukh has balanced theatrical comedies with OTT appearances. His recent releases include Mister Mummy (2022) and his role in Ek Villain Returns (2022), followed by the thriller Visfot (2024). Looking ahead, he has a packed slate with Raid 2 (2025) and Housefull 5 (2025) lined up for release, while Mastiii 4 is also on the anvil. With Malamaal Weekly 2 now entering development, the actor appears set to revisit the broad, ensemble-style humour that has long been one of his most bankable lanes.
