Farhad Samji started his career as a dialogue writer with his brother Sajid Samji. The duo, known by their screen name Sajid-Farhad, wrote dialogues for most of Rohit Shetty‘s films like the Golmaal series, Singham, and All the Best among others. Farhad then went his separate way and went on to become a director. He helmed films like Akshay Kumar‘s Bachchhan Paandey and Salman Khan‘s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
After both the films bombed and were panned by everyone, his directorial credentials came into question. The criticism reached a new level after his web series Pop Kaun was released on Disney Plus Hotstar. There were reports that he has been replaced as a director for the third installment of the Hera Pheri franchise. However, a recent media report states that the makers have decided to retain him as the director.
While there was a point when the producer contemplated removing him, they finally decided to let him helm Hera Pheri 3. A source explained that both Farhad’s last films failed miserably, it was mainly because of their poor writing. Otherwise, they believe he is a good director with a great understanding of commercial cinema. The third installment of Hera Pheri will see the previous cast members like Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, and Suniel Shetty.
Farhad’s Journey As A Director
After writing dialogues for over a decade, Farhad Samji turned to direction with Entertainment, which he co-directed with Sajid. His next film was the 2019’s Housefull 4. The comedy caper had an ensemble star cast of Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Bobby Deol, Jacqueline Fernandez and others. Despite mixed to negative critical feedback, it turned out to be a major commercial success. In 2022, he directed Bachchan Pandey starring Akshay Kumar and Kriti Sanon. A remake of the Tamil film Jigarthanda, the film was a major critical and commercial failure.
Farhad’s recent release was Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, starring Salman Khan and Pooja Hegde. A remake of Veeram, the film had a decent opening at the box-office. But it failed to create an impact. Since then, questions around his replacement started emerging.
