Detective Sherdil: Diljit Dosanjh’s Long-Delayed Mystery-Comedy Gets June 20 OTT Release
After being stuck in limbo for almost three years, Diljit Dosanjh’s long-overdue mystery-comedy Detective Sherdil is finally coming to audiences. Produced by Ali Abbas Zafar, the family entertainer will be releasing exclusively on ZEE5 on June 20, 2025.
The film wrapped a few years ago. Directed by Ravi Chhabriya (debut director), for unknown reasons the film was not released! Now it finally has an OTT release — excitement is back around this Diljit-starrer comedy whodunit.
When & Where To Watch Detective Sherdil
The film will be available to watch on ZEE5 on June 20, 2025 — Ali Abbas Zafar confirmed it by revealing the first-look poster on ZEE5 on June 8 via social media!
“Sherdil’s detective skills are about to be an ATE/10 🦁 Don’t say we didn’t warn ya ❤️,”
— Zafar captioned the post, and set the promotional phase in motion that it has needed for so long.
What’s Detective Sherdil All About?
The film is set in Budapest and features a quirky Indian detective, played by Diljit, dropped into a high-stakes, chaotically fierce case full of delicate and eccentric suspects with unpredictable turns on the way.
Detective Sherdil will pull from traditional elements of mystery while placing a heavy value on individuality and humour — providing a clean family entertainer that speaks to both young audiences and adults.
The trailer should be released within the next few days and will probably provide insight into the character-led chaos in Diljit’s domain of comic timing.

The film is the second collaboration between Diljit and Ali Abbas Zafar after the well-received Jogi. While Zafar directed Jogi, Detective Sherdil is directed by Ravi Chhabriya, who worked as assistant director under Zafar on Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai, and Bharat.
Box Office Worldwide Verdict
A project that has been a long time coming now gets its day in the sun. With Diljit Dosanjh in full comedic physical form, an ensemble cast of multi-talented veterans, and a mystery-comedy genre that has been increasingly popular on OTT, Detective Sherdil is arriving with a second wind.
If the writing is solid, this could be a family favourite in the OTT space, particularly since it is landing mid-year with summer content fatigue pending. All are awaiting the arrival of the trailer.
