Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions announced in last month that they’ll be producing a film ‘Screw Dheela’, featuring Tiger Shroff. A grand announcement video was also launched, showing Tiger scared being interrogated by goons. He initially pretends to be an innocent PT teacher, but suddenly he gets into action mode and attacks the goons. Meanwhile, there have been some reports that Pushpa fame Rashmika Mandanna will play female lead in the film. A few reports also mentioned that Shanaya Kapoor or Janhvi Kapoor might get the role.
Producer Karan Johar and Director of the film, Shashank Khaitan have decided to put the film on the backburner. There were multiple reasons for it. Firstly, the film is a big-scale action entertainer, and the budget was coming up to Rs. 150 crores. Meanwhile, the teaser didn’t really get the positive response that the makers were hoping for. Tiger’s last movie Heropanti 2 was a disaster and it put a question mark on his pull at the ticket window. Lastly, the box office scenario is dreadful right now, especially how Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan had seen such a negative response from the audience.
Keeping all these factors in mind, it was felt by all the stakeholders that it’s not wise to commence the shooting of the film right now. Screw Dheela is not shelved, the team hopes to visit this film later when the box office environment is favourable.
For Shashank Khaitan, this is not the first time his film got pushed after a grand announcement. In February 2018, it was announced that he’ll be directing Rannbhoomi, starring Varun Dhawan. The film was later shelved. In August 2020, Shashank opened up on this film and said that Rannbhoomi needed a humongous budget due to world-class special effects. Hence, it was decided to not make the film at that point of time, and there are many more instances.
