Dhurandhar, the Ranveer Singh starrer that has been breaking box office records, is having its shows reduced by 50 percent in several single screen theatres from January 1. The reason is the release of Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda and the late Dharmendra. The interesting part is that both films are distributed by Jio Studios, which has made this transition much smoother than expected.
The Dhurandhar wave has affected the collections and showcasing of other films like Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, Avatar Fire And Ash, and Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri. However, Ikkis will not face the same challenges because of the Jio Studios connection.
Jio Connection Makes Screen Sharing Easy
According to exhibition sources, Ikkis is distributed by Jio Studios, which is also the distributor and producer of Dhurandhar. This means there are no disputes or disagreements over screen sharing. The distributor has no qualms about reducing Dhurandhar‘s shows since the film has already done huge business and will enter its fifth week on Friday, January 2.
Jio Studios has requested around 30 to 40 percent showcasing for Ikkis across theatres. In cinemas with 2 screens, they have asked for 4 shows. In three screen cinemas, they have requested 6 shows, and 8 shows in 4 screen multiplexes. In cinemas with 5 screens and more, they have made a request for 10 plus shows.
Strategic Show Timing For Ikkis Release
The distributor has given specific instructions to exhibitors regarding show timings for Ikkis. In single screens and 2 screen and 3 screen cinemas, they have instructed theatres not to schedule very early morning shows. This strategy is based on the understanding that Ikkis is a film that will not attract audiences early morning and would grow gradually by word of mouth.
Additionally, theatres have been instructed to sell tickets at regular weekend rates. This means the tickets of Ikkis will be available at reasonable prices, making it accessible for families and audiences who want to watch this patriotic war drama during the New Year holiday period.
Ikkis Gets More Shows Than Tu Meri Main Tera
Trade experts have observed that Ikkis probably has more shows in a city like Mumbai than Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, even though the latter had wider appeal as a romantic comedy. The biggest advantage for Ikkis is that it has secured shows in those single screens where it can attract an audience.
Until last week, such cinemas were only screening Dhurandhar. Now with the reduction in shows, Ikkis has found space in prime single screen locations. The film has secured 4 shows a day in the sprawling 819 seater Galaxy theatre, while Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri had to settle for smaller screens.
Dhurandhar Shows Halved In Major Single Screens
Theatre listings reveal that Dhurandhar‘s shows have been halved from tomorrow, going from 4 shows to 2 shows in most single screens like Gold Cinema Santacruz, Chitra, Plaza, Roxy, Citylight, Star City, MovieTime Dahisar, Inox Nakshatra Dadar, PVR Le Reve, MovieTime Suburbia, and Gold Cinema Dadar. Several single screen theatres will play 2 shows of Dhurandhar, 2 shows of Ikkis, and 1 show of the Marathi film Krantijyoti Vidyalay Marathi Madhyam.
Some single screens across the country are expected to skip Ikkis as the distributors have gone for limited release. Theatres in certain mass appealing pockets will continue to play Dhurandhar with more shows.
