Rajkummar Rao starrer Stree 2 became one of the biggest hits of the year, shattering records at the box office. However, with its success came rumours about the actor’s fee hike.
Speculation spread that he had bumped up his charges to Rs 5 crore after the film’s remarkable success.
Rajkummar Rao Rubbishes The Reports Of His Fee Hike
In a recent conversation with The Indian Express, Rajkummar laughed off the claims, calling them ‘untrue’.
He said, “I read different figures every day. I’m not stupid to burden my producers. Being a part of the biggest blockbuster is not going to change me as an actor, money is just a byproduct of my passion. I want to work all my life, so I keep looking for roles that surprise me, excite me, challenge and help me grow.”
Stree Franchise’s Massive Success At The Box Office
The Stree franchise has seen massive success, with the first film released in 2018. The horror-comedy, which starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, became an instant hit, grossing a total of Rs 180 crore worldwide.
Made on a modest budget of Rs 25 crore, it was one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year. The film even topped the charts on Amazon Prime Video, ranking 7th on India’s top 10 grossers list.
The much-awaited sequel Stree 2 was released in 2024 after 6 years. The film, which had a bigger budget of Rs 60 crore, became a massive blockbuster, grossing over Rs 880 crore worldwide.
Released on August 15, 2024, the film dominated the box office, especially during the Independence Day period. With earnings exceeding Rs 600 crore, it became the highest-grossing Hindi film, entering the coveted Rs 600 crore club. It’s also the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film, following Jawan, which grossed Rs 640 crore.
Rajkummar Rao: Work Front
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao is gearing up for his next project Maalik, directed by Pulkit. The actor shared an exciting poster of the film on Instagram, where he’s seen holding an AK-47 atop a jeep.
The poster, featuring a line of trucks in the background, reads: “Maalik. Paida nahi ho sakta ban toh sakta hai.”
Rajkummar also revealed that the shooting has begun and fans can expect to see him in an action-packed role for the first time. Maalik will mark his debut as a gangster in an action-thriller, with shooting in across various locations in India.
