Dipika Chikhlia Criticizes Kriti Sanon And Om Raut For Cheek Peck At Tirupati, Highlighting Cultural Sensitivities

Dipika Chikhlia, renowned for her portrayal of Sita in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, shared her perspective on the treatment of actors during that era. Dipika highlighted that during their time on the show, they were held in high regard and almost revered like deities. She emphasized that physical affection such as hugging was strictly prohibited, and even the idea of kissing was completely out of the question. Dipika’s remarks came in response to a video featuring Adipurush director Om Raut and actress Kriti Sanon, which stirred controversy as it showed Om giving a peck on Kriti’s cheek at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati.

During an interview with Aaj Tak, Dipika expressed her views on the perception of physical gestures in today’s generation. She mentioned that for present-day actors, kissing and hugging are commonly seen as affectionate gestures, unlike during her time portraying Sita. Dipika clarified that she fully immersed herself in the character of Sita and considered it a part of her life, while contemporary actors tend to view their roles as characters and detach from them once the film is completed.

Message From Sita From 90’s To Sita Of 2023

Dipika recollected her experiences during the 1980s when Ramayan was being aired. She reminisced that during that era, the actors were treated with immense reverence and respect. Addressing them by their real names was uncommon, and instead, people would approach them and touch their feet as a sign of devotion.

This was a distinctive time when the actors were not seen merely as performers but rather as divine entities. Dipika emphasized that back then, even hugging someone was not permissible, and the idea of kissing was completely out of the question. She further added that unlike the present scenario, where actors tend to move on to their next projects after a film’s release, the actors from her time remained closely associated with their characters even after the show concluded.

Dipika explained that they were held in such high regard that they were treated like gods who had come to reside in the world. Due to this elevated status, they were always mindful not to engage in any actions that could potentially offend or disrespect people’s sentiments.

A video capturing the visit of the Adipurush team to Tirupati temple surfaced on social media on Wednesday. The footage featured director Om Raut and actress Kriti Sanon, where Om bid farewell to Kriti with a peck on the cheek.

The action caught the attention of BJP state secretary Ramesh Naidu Nagothu, who shared a screenshot from the clip and criticized the display of affection. He expressed that engaging in such public acts of affection, like kissing and hugging in front of Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala, is considered disrespectful and unacceptable. However, he later deleted the tweet. Adipurush, featuring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, and Sunny Singh, is set to release on June 16.
