Director Ajay Bahl Retracts His Comment On Arjun Kapoor And Bhumi Pednekar Starrer ‘The Lady Killer’ Being ‘Incomplete’, Asserts It Is A ‘Complete’ Film

The director of The Lady Killer, Ajay Bahl, has revealed that his latest film starring Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar was released in theatres incomplete, with several scenes missing from the final cut. The film, which is a crime thriller based on a novel by Pawan Sony, has been a box office disaster, earning only Rs 38,000 on its opening day.

Director Ajay Bahl makes shocking revelation of film ‘The Lady Killer’ being incomplete

Bahl made this shocking confession in the comment section of a YouTube video by Tried and Refused Productions, where he wrote: “To confirm, yes, the movie is incomplete. 30 pages of the 117-page screenplay were never shot.” He continued, “A huge number of connecting scenes—Arjun and Bhumi’s entire romance, Bhumi’s dependence on alcohol, Ajrun’s sense of being trapped and losing everything and having to run from town, his sense of total despair—all these psychological beats are missing. So yes, it’s no surprise that the film feels choppy and disjointed and one finds it hard to connect with the characters.”

He also clarified that the film’s failure was not due to the actors, who he praised for their dedication and performance, but due to other problems that he did not specify. He said: “As director, it was extremely painful to shoot The Lady Killer, but absolutely not because of the actors. Arjun and Bhumi were sheer joys to work with. They gave their heart and soul to the film. The problem lied elsewhere, but that is another story.”

Bahl backtracks from his comments, says he was joking

However, in a later statement, Bahl tried to backtrack on his comments, saying that they were a humorous take on baseless rumors circulating about the film’s completion status. He said: “I understand that humour and sarcasm can sometimes be misinterpreted. I want to emphasise that ‘Ladykiller’ is a complete film which has been released for the audiences and I am immensely proud of this project.”

“I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this film to fruition,” the director added.

The film, which was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 45 crore, was released on 3rd November 2023 with only 12 shows nationwide. It is said to have been affected by a cost-overrun, rains in Uttarakhand and a lack of reshoots, resulting in a hasty editing and voiceovers. The film is expected to have an OTT release soon.
