Director Of ‘Doctor G’ Anubhuti Kashyap Identifies And Accepts Wrong Decisions Causing Ayushmann Starrer’s Failure

The first week in India reportedly brought Rs 21.95 cr at the box-office for Doctor G.

Anubhuti Kashyap directed Doctor G stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rakul Preet Singh, Shefali Shah, Sheeba Chaddha. It is produced by Junglee Pictures. The production house and Ayushmann Khurrana joined hands for the third time after Bareilly ki Barfi and Badhaai Ho in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

Ayushmann plays Dr. Uday Gupta, whereas Rakul Preet acts as a medical student named Dr. Fatima Dugg. Shefali Shah plays Dr Nandini Bhatia. It’s a comedy drama released in theatres on October 14, 2022.

The first week in India reportedly brought Rs 21.95 cr at the box-office for Doctor G, whereas worldwide it showed decent amounting to Rs 35 cr. Speaking on its failure, Kashyap said, “There were a lot of wrong decisions made, even in the script and narrative arc.”

“Sumit and I are different writers. [That resulted in] tonal differences. More than regrets, there has been learning. The biggest one is that you must be completely satisfied with the script before going to shoot,” she added as per Mid day. On Box-office collections, she said, ““Its opening figures were better than our expectations. Also, those who watched it liked it. That is the saving grace.”

While talking from her assistant director perspective in her brother Anurag Kashyap movies, she remarked, “Anurag’s scripts are mostly half-written, and he forms them as the films are made. I came from that school [of filmmaking]. So, [when approaching Doctor G], there were certain parts that weren’t finished in the script, but we thought, ‘Let’s shoot it now, we will see it later.’ The film would’ve probably worked better had it been completely my script, giving me more control while shooting it.”
