Director Rajkumar Santoshi Speaks Out Against Title Change For Lahore 1947 Starring Sunny Deol And Shabana Azmi, Calls It Appeasement

Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan, has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. After multiple release date announcements and delays, the latest buzz is that the film may release with a completely new title. The reason behind this potential change is the current political scenario, as some believe an Indian film cannot have a title referencing a Pakistani city. However, director Rajkumar Santoshi is firmly opposed to this idea and has made his stance very clear.

In an exclusive conversation, Santoshi did not hold back his thoughts on the title change controversy. He stated that he is totally against any such decision and called it appeasement. The director emphasized that while the final call rests with producer Aamir Khan, he personally does not support changing the title just to avoid political complications. For Santoshi, Lahore 1947 is not just another project. It is a dream he has been nurturing for almost 20 years, and compromising on the title feels like diluting the very essence of what the film stands for.

A Dream Project Two Decades In The Making

Lahore 1947 is an adaptation of Asghar Wajahat’s celebrated play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni. The film stars Sunny Deol in the lead role, and Santoshi could not be more excited about this collaboration. He shared that he was destined to make this film with Sunny, who he believes is absolutely perfect for the part. According to the director, Sunny brings an amazing fusion of classic and contemporary acting styles to the screen. The duo has previously delivered landmark films like Ghayal and Ghatak, and Santoshi is confident that Lahore 1947 will have the same kind of impact on audiences and the industry.

Shabana Azmi Stuns In A Career Defining Role

For the first time in his career, Rajkumar Santoshi got the opportunity to work with the legendary Shabana Azmi, and the experience left him completely mesmerized. He revealed that Shabana has been stunning audiences for 50 years, and just when you think she has done it all, she comes up with yet another career defining performance. In Lahore 1947, Shabana plays a character that is central to the film’s narrative, and Santoshi believes her portrayal will leave audiences in tears. He praised her not just as an actress but as a remarkable human being, and expressed his eagerness to collaborate with her again in the future.
