The Diwali weekend of 2024 brought fireworks to Bollywood as Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 lit up theatres across India. Released on 1 November, these two highly-anticipated films drew massive audiences, capturing the festive spirit and resulting in an impressive box-office haul.
In just 1st weekend, the Ajay Devgn-led Singham Again and Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 earned a combined total of over Rs 210 crore. This record-breaking figure exceeded last year’s Diwali weekend collections, where Animal and Sam Bahadur collectively brought in Rs 191 crore.
PVR Inox Stocks Drop By 6% Despite Record-Breaking Collections Of Diwali Releases
Despite the tremendous response from audiences, an unexpected development unfolded in the financial market. While theatres were packed, PVR Inox, India’s largest cinema chain, saw its stock drop by 6% over the weekend.
Investors were puzzled, as the robust performance of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 suggested a boost for cinema operators. On Monday, PVR Inox’s stock fell by Rs 93, a decline that left analysts questioning the reasons behind the dip, despite the record-breaking box-office collections.
According to industry sources, the fall in PVR Inox’s stock may stem from concerns about substantial self-buying of tickets for both films, which some believe could have inflated opening weekend numbers.
This speculation has raised questions about the sustainability of these films’ performances in the coming weeks and shaken investor confidence, even with the theatres filled to capacity.
How Are Singham Again & Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3?
The latest entry in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, Singham Again, pulled audiences in with high-octane action sequences and an all-star cast. Alongside Devgn, the film featured major Bollywood stars, including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Arjun Kapoor, with cameos by Tiger Shroff and Jackie Shroff.
The mix of action and drama, along with Shetty’s signature style, made it a family favourite during the holiday season. Fans are calling Singham Again a “true Diwali blockbuster,” filled with “memorable moments” that deliver on the promise of an action-packed festive release.
Meanwhile, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 brought a light-hearted horror-comedy to audiences looking for laughs and thrills. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film stars Kartik Aaryan alongside Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan, and Madhuri Dixit.
Though fans enjoyed the humour and scares, some critics noted that the plot could feel predictable at times, with a screenplay that lacked the polish of its predecessors. However, for audiences in search of a fun and spooky outing, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 provided plenty of laughter and family-friendly scares.
