Don 3 Controversy: Producers Guild Of India To Step In As Farhan Akhtar And Ranveer Singh Standoff Escalates

The Don 3 controversy has taken a sharper turn with the Producers Guild of India now preparing to hear both sides of the dispute involving Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and actor Ranveer Singh.

What began as a high profile casting change for one of Bollywood’s most talked about franchises has now evolved into an industry level issue, with compensation claims and the question of accountability in big budget productions coming into focus.

At the heart of the matter is Singh’s reported exit from Don 3, which has led to Excel Entertainment demanding damages for losses it claims were incurred during the project’s pre production phase.

Producers Guild Of India To Hold Informal Hearings

According to information shared by members of the Producers Guild of India, the issue has not yet been formally presented at a general body meeting, but the Guild is expected to take it up informally by the end of February.

A senior Guild member said, “No formal complaint has been placed before the general body. But both sides will be heard informally.”

This development indicates that the Guild is looking to facilitate dialogue before the dispute turns into a prolonged industry confrontation, especially given the scale and visibility attached to Don 3.

10 Day Window For Mutual Resolution

Following the proposed informal meetings, the Guild is expected to provide both parties with a limited period to reach common ground. An insider stated, “If talks fail, the body is likely to escalate the issue to the Cine & TV Artistes Association [CINTAA]. CINTAA’s involvement would ensure that both producer and artiste’s interests are balanced.”

The intent, as understood within the industry, is to attempt a settlement route first, while also laying down a mechanism for escalation if negotiations stall.

Why Don 3 Dispute Could Trigger Bigger Cost Reforms

Beyond the immediate disagreement around damages, the case is also being viewed as an important reference point in the ongoing conversation about ballooning production expenses. The compensation claim reportedly includes losses linked to pre production work, scheduling disruptions, and expenses related to an entourage.

The insider added, “Producers today are bearing disproportionate financial pressure due to expanding entourage. Seeing that stars’ entourages remain bloated, as evident from this case, it’s best to put guidelines in place.”

With major films increasingly operating on tight calendars and complex logistics, the outcome of this dispute could push industry bodies to introduce clearer norms around cost liabilities, schedules, and the financial impact of last minute exits.
