Shah Rukh Khan‘s latest film, ‘Jawan’, also featuring Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi and Deepika Padukone in a special role, has achieved significant success, amassing approximately Rs 490 crore net in India within 12 days of its release. Jawan is creating new box office records everyday and is on track to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
The renowned Tamil filmmaker, Atlee, who recently made a fantastic debut in Hindi cinema recently opened up about how he is eagerly awaiting the release of another Shah Rukh Khan film, ‘Dunki‘.
‘Dunki’, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is set to hit the theatres in December this year. The film will be Shah Rukh Khan‘s third release of the year. It also features Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, Boman Irani and Vicky Kaushal in a special appearance.
Atlee is excited for ‘Dunki’ and recollects Hirani visiting ‘Jawan’ sets
Atlee expressed his excitement for ‘Dunki’ during an interview with News18 Showsha. He shared that he hasn’t seen any rushes of ‘Dunki’, but is super excited for the film and plans to watch it on the biggest screen when it releases, alongside the audience.
He also revealed that Rajkumar Hirani had visited them on the sets of ‘Jawan’ and had seen the first reel of his film during the mixing. This interaction seems to have left a lasting impression on Atlee.
Atlee said, “I haven’t seen any rushes of Dunki but I am super excited for the film. I am planning to watch it on the biggest screen when it releases with the audience. Rajkumar sir had visited us on the sets of Jawan and he had seen the first reel of my film during the mixing.”
How Rajkumar Hirani inspired Atlee for writing
Atlee mentioned that he learned writing from him during the Tamil remake of ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Nanban’ and how he respects Hirani as a man of writing.
Pointing out that he learned writing from the PK helmer as S Shankar’s Nanban (2012), a remake of Hirani’s 3 Idiots (2009), was one of the films he worked as an assistant, Atlee said: “So I am aware of the nuances of the writing of Rajkumar sir and have taken inspiration from him. I respect him as a man of writing.”
Atlee Says Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ Will Cross Both ‘Pathaan’ & ‘Jawan’
In another interview with Koimoi, Jawan director said, “Dunki is going to cross everything. That’s how the eco-system should be. We should grow. We should keep our peaks growing in every film. I have to cross my previous film, of course, I have to cross Jawan in my next. It’s realised with every technician and every actor and ever body in the eco system.”
Atlee added, “Once we are growing, the system is growing so it’s a good sign and I think Dunki is going to do wonders. I am really happy for Mr. Khan sir and I don’t think anyone in the world will have this record. I am also praying and wishing for that.”
Shah Rukh Khan on ‘Dunki’
During Jawan’s success meet, SRK too had opened up about ‘Dunki‘. “We started with January 26 (Pathaan), it was a good auspicious day. Then Janmashtami, on the occasion of Krishna ji’s birthday we released this film (Jawan). Now there is the New Year, Christmas. We will bring Dunki at that time,” he said and added, “I think of national integration. Jis din meri film release hoti hai, uss din Eid hota hai (And whenever my film is released, it’s Eid anyway). I’m working harder than I worked in the last 29 years. I will keep working hard because now I’m the happiest when people get happy after watching the film.”
