The film was initially slated for release on September 6, 2024, but its release was delayed due to protests from certain Sikh groups. These groups raised concerns that the film portrayed the community negatively.

As a result, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reviewed the film and suggested 13 cuts, including the removal of violent scenes and references to controversial figures, such as Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. After these revisions, the film was granted a U/A certificate, allowing it to be released in theatres.

More About The Film

Set during the turbulent Emergency period of the 1970s, Emergency centres on India’s first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, and the dramatic events that marked her rule. Kangana’s portrayal of Gandhi promises to offer a gripping, nuanced take on a chapter in Indian democracy that continues to be widely discussed.

Emergency boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik. Each actor plays an essential role in bringing the political and personal dynamics of the era to life.

The film’s score, composed by Sanchit Balhara and G.V. Prakash Kumar, further elevates the emotional intensity of the story. The screenplay and dialogues were penned by the renowned Ritesh Shah, known for his sharp writing in films like Pink and Raazi.

Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti, Emergency has created significant buzz due to its timely subject matter and the controversy surrounding its production.
