Emergency: Kangana Ranaut Finally Accepts Cuts Suggested By CBFC; No Clarity On Release Date As Next Hearing Set For Oct 3

Emergency faces delays as Kangana Ranaut agrees to CBFC's cuts, with a new release date still pending.

Kangana Ranaut‘s film Emergency has faced a huge controversy and delays, but there is some progress. The actor-director has now agreed to make the cuts suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

This decision comes after the CBFC informed the Bombay High Court about Kangana’s acceptance during a hearing on Monday.

The court session was focused on a petition filed by Zee Studios, which is one of the co-producers of the film. The studio is seeking the release of the censor certificate to allow the film to hit cinemas.

The film has faced significant backlash, particularly from Sikh groups, over claims that it misrepresents the Sikh community.

New Cuts Suggest Only Minor Changes To The Film

During the hearing, advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing the CBFC, stated that Kangana is on board with the suggested changes.

Advocate Sharan Jagtiani, who represents Zee Studios, confirmed to the court that these cuts would not significantly alter the film’s content.

“The cuts suggested don’t even touch a minute of the film. It’s just some words here and there,” Chandrachud explained. This indicates that the changes are likely minimal and focused on specific dialogues rather than the overall storyline.

Next Hearing On Emergency Certification & Release This Thursday

The next court hearing is scheduled for October 3. Until then, the uncertainty about Emergency’s release date remains. The film was initially set to premiere on September 6, but Kangana announced the postponement on social media.

About Emergency

Emergency is a political thriller that focuses on a tumultuous period in Indian history. It highlights the life of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who declared a 21-month emergency from 1975 to 1977.

Kangana plays the role of Gandhi in the film. The project has not only faced scrutiny from the CBFC but also backlash from Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal. These groups have accused the film of misrepresenting their community and distorting historical facts.
