Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut is in the spotlight again. After facing backlash for her remarks on the now-repealed farm laws, she has issued a public apology.
On Wednesday, Ranaut clarified that her comments were personal opinions and not reflective of her party’s official stance.
Kangana Ranaut Shares An Apology Video After Backlash
The controversy began during an event in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. Here, Ranaut urged the government to reconsider the farm laws, which were repealed in 2021 after widespread protests across the country. Her statements reignited debate around the contentious legislation that many farmers vehemently opposed.
In response to the criticism, Ranaut took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain her position. She wrote, “I also have to keep this in mind. I am not an artist. I am a worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and my opinions should be the party’s stand instead of being my own. So if I disappoint anyone with my words and my thinking, I will be sorry and I take my words back.” This admission seems aimed at mending fences with those who took offence at her earlier comments.

At the event, Ranaut stated that the protests against the farm laws were mainly concentrated in a few states. She claimed, “Farmers are a pillar of strength in India’s progress. Only in some states, they object to farm laws. I appeal with folded hands that farm laws should be brought back in the interest of farmers.”
She argued that reinstating these laws would lead to greater financial stability for farmers and positively impact the agricultural sector.
Congress’ Criticism For Kangana’s Statement
The political fallout from Ranaut’s comments has not gone unnoticed. The Congress party quickly condemned her remarks, suggesting they reflect a push by the ruling BJP to reintroduce the controversial legislation.
This criticism is particularly poignant as Haryana prepares for its assembly elections on October 5. The state was a key battleground during the farmer protests in 2021, especially at the Delhi borders where farmers rallied against the three laws.
For the unversed, Kangana is currently promoting her upcoming film, Emergency, which has garnered its own share of attention. The film is awaiting a decision from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which is expected to announce its ruling soon.
