Kangana Ranaut has expressed worries about the delay in getting certification for her political drama Emergency. She shared that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has not yet issued the final approval for the film, even though it was initially cleared.
In an interview with IANS, Kangana called the situation “a lot of drama” and voiced her frustration over the CBFC’s hesitation.
Kangana Ranaut Says CBFC Is HESITANT To Certify Emergency
“I was very confident that I got the certification. But now they are not giving me my certificate,” said the actress. She further stated that external pressures might be influencing the CBFC’s reluctance and warned that she is prepared to take legal action to ensure her film’s release.
The challenges surrounding Emergency extend beyond certification. The film has faced calls for a ban, particularly from groups in Telangana. A delegation from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, has accused the film of portraying the Sikh community in a negative light, alleging that it depicts them as terrorists and anti-nationals.
Additionally, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht have also demanded an immediate ban, arguing that the film attempts to “character assassinate” Sikhs.
Kangana REACTS To The Controversies Surrounding Her Film, Ready To Go To The Court
Kangana addressed these controversies head-on, emphasising the importance of historical accuracy in storytelling. “We have to show history,” she stated.
“An almost 70-year-old woman was shot 30-35 times in her house… Someone must have killed her. Now you want to show it… Because apparently, you think you can hurt someone. But you have to show the history.”
Despite these significant challenges, Kangana remains resolute in her commitment to releasing Emergency as scheduled. She voiced her determination to defend her film, even if it requires legal intervention. “I am determined to even go to court to protect my film. To save my right as an individual,” she declared.
Kangana also touched on the issue of creative liberty, asserting her stance against censorship. “If they are going to suppress the voice of an artist and my creative liberty… Some people have wielded their guns, and we are not afraid of guns,” she stated firmly.
About Emergency
Emergency is not a biopic of Indira Gandhi, though the former Prime Minister plays a central role in the story. Kangana not only stars in the film but also directs it.
The movie boasts a strong cast, including Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and Shreyas Talpade, with the late Satish Kaushik appearing as Jagjivan Ram, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India. The film is slated for release on September 6.
