Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency To Be Banned In Telangana? State Government CM Assures Sikh Community It Will Consider Prohibiting Film’s Release

Emergency could face a ban in Telangana as Chief Minister Reddy considers the Sikh community’s concerns over their portryal in the film.

Kangana Ranaut‘s upcoming film, Emergency, has found itself at the centre of controversy as members of the Sikh community raise strong objections to its content.

The backlash has reached a point where Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is considering a potential ban on the film’s release in the state. This move comes after the community’s leaders expressed serious concerns about the portrayal of Sikhs in the movie, which they argue could perpetuate harmful stereotypes.

Sikh Community Delegation Presents Concerns Over Emergency’s Portrayal To Telangana Government

The Telangana Sikh Society, represented by a group of 18 members led by former IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, recently met with government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir at the state Secretariat.

During this meeting, the delegation submitted a formal appeal to the state government, detailing their grievances. They specifically highlighted the film’s depiction of Sikhs, which they believe is not only inaccurate but also damaging to the community’s image.

According to Shabbir, the Sikh leaders are deeply troubled by the portrayal of their community in Emergency. They argue that the film casts Sikhs in a negative light, depicting them as antagonistic figures. This portrayal, they claim, is offensive and could lead to misunderstandings about the Sikh community among viewers.

The delegation stressed that such representations could harm the community’s reputation and social standing, particularly in a diverse society like India.

Chief Minister Reddy Considers Ban On Emergency As Govt Reviews Legal Options

Shabbir promptly brought the issue to the attention of Chief Minister Reddy. The Chief Minister has reportedly assured the Sikh leaders that the state government will explore the possibility of prohibiting the film’s release in Telangana.

However, this decision will only be made after seeking legal counsel to ensure that any action taken is within the bounds of the law. The potential ban is seen as a way to address the community’s grievances and prevent any potential backlash that the film’s release could provoke.

This isn’t the first time Emergency has faced opposition. Earlier this week, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which manages historical Gurdwaras, issued a legal notice to the film’s producers, including Kangana Ranaut.

The SGPC alleged that the movie misrepresents Sikh history and includes scenes that have deeply offended the Sikh community. The notice demanded the immediate removal of these objectionable scenes and called for an apology from the filmmakers. The SGPC also insisted that the film’s trailer, which was released on August 14, be taken down from all public and social media platforms.
