Akshay Kumar is an actor known for doing around five to six films every year. He has been doing this for decades now and has mastered prioritizing quantity over quality. However, his recent few releases like Samrat Prithviraj and Raksha Bandhan did not make an impact. But that hasn’t deterred his confidence. One of the most commercially successful films of his career has to be Rowdy Rathore.
The action comedy was directed by Prabhudeva and backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and UTV Motion Pictures. Released in 2012, the film was a major commercial hit of that time. Recently, the film was screened in a cinema hall in Jamnagar. A picture of the poster from the theatre (where its 12:30 show took place) has been circulating on the internet. It’s really interesting to know that people are still going after watching it on the big screen ever after 11 years of its release.
Rowdy Rathore Was A Major Success
An official remake of the 2006 Telugu film Vikramarkudu, based on an original story written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, the film also starred Sonakshi Sinha, Gurdeep Kohli, Yashpal Sharma, Nassar, and Paresh Ganatra. Made on a budget of 60 crores, Rowdy Rathore grossed over 203.39 crores at the box office, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. Since then, there have been rumors of the film’s sequel.
Anees Bazmee Might Direct The Sequel
In recent reports, it has been suggested that Anees Bazmee will be taking over the directorial responsibilities for Rowdy Rathore 2 from Prabhu Deva, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali stepping in as the producer. Interestingly, the reports further indicate that both Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, who were part of the original film, will not be involved in the sequel.
Instead, it is speculated that Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani have been approached to portray the lead roles in the anticipated project. In an interview, Anees Bazmee refrained from divulging too many details but seemed to confirm the existence of the movie in question. He mentioned that discussions are currently ongoing, and when the time is right, an official announcement will be made.
