Bunty Aur Babli 2, starring Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji, was released yesterday. The film was projected to start on a good note, with collections in the Rs. 4-5 crore range, considering it was a sequel to the prior release in 2005. The film, however, is said to have underperformed. Bunty Aur Babli 2 made less than Rs. 3 crore on Day 1 of its release.

Despite being a sequel to a critically acclaimed film, Bunty Aur Babli 2 received bad reviews and word of mouth. In reality, when compared to Bunty Aur Babli, which was released in 2005, the franchise value appears to have had little impact on the film’s overall collections. Bunty Aur Babli had a Day 1 gross of Rs. 2.68 crore, whilst Bunty Aur Babli 2 had a Day 1 gross of less than Rs. 3 crore. What’s most surprising is that the Guru Nanak holiday, which was supposed to boost the film’s box office, had minimal impact when contrasted to the terrible reviews it received.

With only six days until the release of John Abraham’s action flick Satyameva Jayate 2, the prospects for Bunty Aur Babli 2’s box office appear grim. Indeed, the Akshay Kumar-starrer Sooryavanshi, which is on its third weekend, is projected to do better than the new movie. According to trade projections, Sooryavanshi will not only outperform Bunty Aur Babli 2 during the weekend, but will also outperform the new release during the week.
