Since a few weeks, rumours have been rampant that renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is collaborating with Kriti Sanon and Aditya Roy Kapur on his upcoming film. While their fans have expressed some excitement at this news, the reality appears to be far different. According to sources close to Bhansali, contrary to media rumours, Kriti and Aditya are not working on a project with the director.
“We don’t know where it came from. There’s nothing happening with Kriti Sanon and Aditya Roy Kapur at Bhansali Productions,” the source has stated while refuting the casting rumours.
Industry sources claim that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently entirely preoccupied on his Netflix series Heeramandi and won’t begin anything else till it is finished. Even though he is just directing two episodes of the historical drama series, he is completely committed to the endeavour and is personally in charge of every part of it.
“Heeramandi will keep him busy throughout this year, and only after finishing it will he head to Baiju Bawra, which stars Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in the lead. Bhansali is bound up with adapting Vijay Bhatt’s 1952 musical historical in his trademark larger-than-life style and is currently developing the script with his regular collaborator Prakash Kapadia, who’s been writing Bhansali’s films right from Devdas, Black, Sawariya, Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat to the recent Gangubai Kathiawadi. They have completed the first draft of the script and will resume writing once Bhansali returns from the Heeramandi sets. The script is expected to be ready by the end of the year, and if everything goes well, the film will get into production in the first half of 2023, “the source told Peepingmoon.
On the other hand, Bhansali is committed to Baiju Bawra post-Heeramandi, the filmmaker is simultaneously toying with other film ideas as well, and no one knows which film he will end up making next. “Whatever Bhansali is directing next, it’s not with Aditya Roy Kapur and Kriti Sanon for sure. Their casting news is completely baseless. They are in talks for the remake of Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, and not for a Bhansali film,” the source further clarified.
