Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan’s bond grabs attention amid her remark that the superstar never interfered

Farah Khan has delivered one of her bluntest takes yet on the changing culture of stardom, calling out actors who want a say in every department while praising Shah Rukh Khan for knowing exactly where to step back. In a candid chat with Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, Farah contrasted today’s interference-heavy work style with the trust she says older superstars brought to a film set.

Farah Khan Calls Out Actors Who Want To Control Everything

Farah did not hold back while describing what frustrates her about some actors today. She said, “The problem is that actors don’t have confidence in anyone. They don’t have confidence in the director, they want to choreograph the songs themselves, they want to interfere in music also, they want to get involved in casting as well. That all comes when you are not confident about themselves. If you are confident about yourself then they’ll trust.”

That thought set the tone for the larger conversation. Farah’s point was not just about control, but about insecurity. In her view, actors who are secure in their own craft do not feel the need to supervise choreography, music, or casting.

Why Shah Rukh Khan Became Her Example

To explain that difference, Farah brought up her experience of directing Shah Rukh Khan in Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. She said, “Like Shah Rukh has never interfered in casting. When I said that I want Sushmita Sen, she was not some big heroine. Any big heroine would have come and done Main Hoon Na. He didn’t question. When I said I need a new heroine for Om Shanti Om, he didn’t question. He just saw the photo and said, ‘You’re good with her, then fine.’ Everyone wants to do everybody else’s job. They are not confident about themselves.”

Farah also linked superstardom to relentless discipline. When asked what makes a superstar, she replied, “First of all, there’s a belief in yourself, also hard work. All these guys work till now, as hard as they worked in their first film. Shah Rukh works harder now, I think. Amitabh Bachchan works hard. Probably he must have not worked that hard when he started his career. You see him on KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati). You see Salman, he works every day. He has never said, ‘I will not shoot on Sunday. Today is my off or now I am going on a holiday.’ He doesn’t do it. Akshay Kumar comes there and he is shooting every day, every hour. He has his ‘I need holiday’, but he is so planned that he keeps everyone on their toes. But coming there and discussing and saying, ‘Okay, now, change this. Only these many? Add more 200 dancers.’ That is not your job ya, you do your f***ing job ya, you first learn your lines. That is your job, to know your lines when you come on set. You don’t know that.”

Farah Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Farah has remained a visible presence across film, television and digital entertainment, even though she has not directed a feature film in recent years. She continues to be active as a choreographer, host and YouTube personality, keeping her industry voice firmly in circulation.

Shah Rukh Khan, meanwhile, was last seen in the 2023 theatrical releases Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki, a year that firmly reasserted his box office dominance. His next confirmed film is King, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026.
