Suriya’s Scene poster grabs attention as the Tamil thriller opens strong at the box office

Suriya has added another strong opening to his 2026 run. Scene, directed by Jithu Madhavan, opened to Rs 19.15 crore net in India on its first day, giving the actor a bigger start than both Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons. The Diwali release entered theatres on November 6 and found solid traction from Tamil audiences right away, with the dubbed Telugu version also contributing to the day one total.

Scene Posts Suriya’s Best Opening Of The Year

The biggest chunk of Scene‘s opening came from its Tamil version, which brought in Rs 16.15 crore net, while the Telugu dub added Rs 3 crore. Overseas, the film collected Rs 12 crore on day one, taking its opening-day worldwide momentum a notch higher. That places Scene ahead of Karuppu, which had opened at Rs 15.50 crore, and Vishwanath & Sons, which began its run with Rs 15.35 crore.

The start is especially significant because Suriya had already delivered two sizeable theatrical openings this year. Karuppu went on to emerge as his highest-grossing film, collecting Rs 310.12 crore in its full run, while Vishwanath & Sons closed at Rs 209.46 crore. Scene has now entered the conversation as another major commercial performer for the actor, with the festive weekend expected to shape its next milestone.

Jithu Madhavan’s Tamil Debut Arrives With Strong Buzz

Scene marks Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan’s Tamil directorial debut. Released on November 6, 2026, the action comedy stars Suriya, Naslen and Nazriya Nazim in the lead, with Anandaraj, Lal, Rajpriyan, Suresh Mathiyalagan and Gajaraj in supporting roles. The film is backed by 2D Entertainment and Zhagaram Studios, with music composed by Sushin Shyam.

The story follows DSP Inbaraj, a semi-retired cop forced to reopen a case he had once left unfinished. What begins as a fresh investigation soon turns into a messy chase involving a contract killer and a chaotic team, giving the film its blend of tension, humour and star-driven swagger.

Suriya’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Suriya has had an unusually packed run over the last two years. In 2025, he appeared in Retro. In 2026, he followed that with Karuppu, Vishwanath & Sons and now Scene, making this one of his busiest theatrical years in recent memory. The three 2026 releases have also reinforced his box office pull across genres, from fantasy action drama to romantic comedy-drama and now action comedy.

Looking ahead, Suriya also has Suriya 48 in the pipeline, which is currently in production. After scoring three prominent releases in a single year, Scene now stands as the latest marker of a commercially strong phase for the actor.
