The conversation around Sandeep Reddy Vanga‘s 2023 film Animal shows no signs of fading. Despite a mixed reception from audiences, with critiques focusing on its depiction of toxic masculinity and misogyny, the film has also been praised for its gripping narrative and Ranbir Kapoor’s powerful performance.
Actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar recently shared his thoughts on Animal in an interview with Faye D’Souza. He mentioned that the film “didn’t work” for him, but he did praise Ranbir Kapoor’s strong performance, the film’s background score, and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s dedication.
Farhan Akhtar Calls Ranbir’s Role In Animal ‘Problematic’
However, Akhtar expressed concerns about the film’s message, stating, “The film didn’t do much for me. Is it something that I would recommend somebody to watch? I guess not. No, I won’t [produce a similar project]. It doesn’t resonate with me. For me, I feel that the character is problematic.”
Despite his reservations, Akhtar praised Vanga’s passion for the film. The director’s dedication to his vision remains a highlight, reflecting his artistic drive.
Ranbir Kapoor Recently Spoke About His Character On Nikhil Kamath’s Podcast
Ranbir Kapoor had previously addressed the film’s controversy regarding misogyny. On Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, Kapoor remarked, “Social media played havoc. They needed something to talk about, so they really went to town claiming it was a misogynistic film. What happens is that the hard work that you put in… I know the director had made Kabir Singh, who also faced the same thing, the hard work gets diminished. Because it gets this tag, which isn’t true, the perception stayed with this film.”
Talking about the work front, Farhan Akhtar is set to direct Don 3, featuring Ranveer Singh and Kiara Advani, while also exploring potential acting opportunities. Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, is preparing for his roles in upcoming projects such as Ramayana, Love & War. He also has Animal Park lined up for release.
