Fauzi Controversy Erupts As Subhas Chandra Bose’s Grandnephew Slams Prabhas Teaser, Demands Apology

A teaser meant to amplify the buzz around Prabhas’ Fauzi has instead triggered a sharp historical controversy. Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, has objected to the film’s depiction of a meeting between Bose and Adolf Hitler, saying the sequence crosses a line by inserting a fictional spy narrative into a real and sensitive chapter of India’s freedom struggle.

The teaser for Fauzi, unveiled on Prabhas’ birthday on October 23, introduces the star as a fictional soldier, spy and strategist working under Subhas Chandra Bose during World War II. In the scene drawing the most criticism, Bose is shown discussing Prabhas’ character with Hitler in Berlin, while describing a secret code built around the Bhagavad Gita.

Chandra Kumar Bose Demands An Apology

Reacting to the teaser, Chandra Kumar Bose said, “Distorting facts and resorting to fiction while dealing with national icons is, I think, a crime,” and argued that filmmakers must not alter history while portraying figures tied to India’s independence movement.

He also underlined the context of Netaji’s real meeting with Hitler, which took place in Berlin on May 29, 1942, as part of Bose’s efforts to seek support against British rule. “He vehemently opposed fascism and believed in democracy and people’s democratic rights,” Chandra Kumar Bose said.

His strongest objection was to the way the teaser frames that interaction for dramatic effect. “The director should apologise to the people of India and all those who value the country’s freedom struggle,” he said.

Why The Fauzi Teaser Has Sparked Debate

The central issue is not that Fauzi features a fictional protagonist, but that the teaser uses a real political meeting involving Subhas Chandra Bose and Hitler to introduce and validate that fictional character. That decision quickly drew criticism online, with viewers questioning whether a national icon should be woven into an invented espionage backstory in such a direct way.

The film itself is directed by Hanu Raghavapudi and stars Prabhas in the lead. It is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers and presented by T-Series Films. The period spy drama also stars Imanvi as the female lead, and the teaser positions the story squarely against the backdrop of India’s anti-colonial struggle. The film is now lined up for a theatrical release on March 19, 2027.

Prabhas’ Recent And Upcoming Work

For Prabhas, Fauzi arrives during a phase where he is balancing period drama with large-scale franchise and commercial films. His most recent released films include Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire in 2023 and Kalki 2898 AD in 2024, both of which reinforced his pull in the pan-India market.

In 2026, Prabhas also featured in The Raja Saab, expanding his line-up beyond action-heavy spectacles. Looking ahead, Fauzi is one of his major confirmed theatrical releases, while Spirit remains another high-profile project on his slate.
