A Mumbai court has ordered the Bandra police to file an FIR against filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar and his team. The complaint, lodged by producers Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky, accuses Zafar and his associates of financial misconduct during the making of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.
The film, starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, became one of the year’s biggest box office flops, leading to complaints from crew members about unpaid dues.
Ali Abbas Charged With Allegations Of Cheating, Forgery & Criminal Conspiracy
Bhagnanis claim that Zafar, co-producer Himanshu Mehra, and others were involved in fraud, forgery, criminal breach of trust, and misusing funds. The complaint accuses them of falsifying signatures and inflating the budget to pocket large sums.
The court has charged the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, and intimidation. (120-B, 406, 420, 465, 468, 471, 500 and 506, r/w.34 of the IPC)
The court highlighted that the scale of the fraud was significant, involving multiple transactions across different locations. The evidence is extensive and will require several agencies to investigate. The offences are non-bailable, showing how serious the allegations are.
Vashu Bhagnai Blames Zafar For Exceeding BMCM’s Budget
The Bhagnanis also claim that Zafar and his team bypassed their oversight and exceeded the agreed budget. They accuse Zafar of inflating the VFX budget, which was initially set at Rs 18 crore but ended up at Rs 42 crore. The overall production cost, initially agreed at Rs 125 crore, allegedly went way over budget.
Additionally, the Bhagnanis say Zafar and his associates intentionally misled them. They claim the filmmakers directly negotiated with vendors, cast, and crew, spending without their approval. This, they argue, led to major financial losses and allowed the accused to illegally benefit from the situation.
Despite a strong cast, including Alaya F, Sonakshi Sinha, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan failed at the box office, grossing less than Rs 100 crore worldwide. This has only deepened the controversy, and investigations into the film’s financial management are ongoing.
