Gadar Franchise’s leading lady Ameesha Patel recently made a shocking claim on the iconic 2001 Bollywood hit ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, spilling the beans on the behind-the-scenes drama of the recently released sequel, ‘Gadar 2’. The actress, known for her role as Sakeena, has set the record straight on the director by making a revelation about Anil Sharma’s preferences and her journey in the film industry.
For many, ‘Gadar’ was synonymous with the unforgettable chemistry between Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol, and the sequel appears to have maintained that magic. Nevertheless, behind the scenes, a war of words has erupted between Ameesha and the director, Anil Sharma.
Ameesha Patel Reveals She Wasn’t Anil Sharma’s Choice For Gadar: Ek Prem Katha
Ameesha Patel told News18 that her casting in the original ‘Gadar’ was not Anil Sharma’s first choice. Instead, he had initially favoured Mamta Kulkarni for the role of Sakeena. Not only that, but Anil Sharma also had Govinda in mind for the character of Tara Singh. It was ultimately the insistence of Zee Studios and Sunny Deol that brought her on board for the film.
Ameesha Patel credited writer Shaktiman Talwar for crafting the character of Sakeena. She emphasized that it was Shaktiman, not Anil Sharma, who breathed life into the beloved character.

Furthermore, Ameesha expressed her sympathy for Anil Sharma, asserting that he had made considerable efforts to promote his son, Utkarsh Sharma, in ‘Gadar 2’. However, despite his efforts, it was the characters of Tara and Sakina that stole the limelight. Ameesha Patel hopes that Utkarsh Sharma will now have more opportunities in the industry, emphasizing that no one wants to rely solely on family connections.
The feud between Ameesha Patel and Anil Sharma ignited when Ameesha accused the director of mismanagement and payment delays. She also made it clear that she would only consider appearing in ‘Gadar 3’ if her characters, Tara Singh and Sakeena, receive ample screen time.
Anil Sharma, on the other hand, had earlier criticized Ameesha Patel’s acting skills, referring to her as a ‘bade ghar ki bitiya’ (rich kid with attitude) during the production of the first ‘Gadar’.
