Sunny Deol‘s Gadar 2 hit cinemas in 2023, breaking Bollywood’s box office drought and making a powerful impact. As the film celebrates its first anniversary, director Anil Sharma reflected on the journey, sharing his thoughts on the emotional connection that Gadar 2 built with the audience.
Released on August 11, 2023, as a sequel to the 2001 classic Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, the film marked a successful return for Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as Tara Singh and Sakina.
Anil Sharma Says ‘Gadar 2 Is An Emotion’
During a conversation with Pinkvilla, Anil Sharma expressed the significance of Gadar 2’s success. “For me, Gadar 2 holds immense meaning because it’s not just a film; it’s an emotion shared by the entire nation,” he said, adding that the love for the original Gadar had created high expectations for the sequel.
He added, “People gave Gadar 1 a place in their hearts and were eagerly waiting for the release of Gadar 2. We worked hard, and when the ‘bomb of emotions’ was ready, I made Gadar 2. The public’s reception filled my heart with happiness.”
Filmmaker Says He & Sunny Deol Began Crying Watching Public Reviews
Sharma also shared a touching moment from the time of the film’s release. He recalled watching public reviews with his wife and being moved to tears by the overwhelming positive response.
He immediately called Sunny Deol, and the two of them, along with Sharma’s wife, found themselves crying together, overwhelmed with emotion.
“We were like, our hard work has paid off, and God has blessed us because whatever we made with immense dedication, the public has liked it,” Sharma reflected.
“When the public loves your work, it fills you with joy—what else could one feel?”
The success of Gadar 2 has not only reaffirmed the film’s place in Bollywood history but also sparked excitement for the future. Anil Sharma has confirmed that a third instalment in the beloved Gadar franchise is on the way.
