Gadar: Ek Prem Katha Re Releases After 22 Years With Additional Scenes

Upon its release in 2001, Anil Sharma’s Partition drama Gadar: Ek Prem Katha made a significant impact on multiple fronts. It not only emerged as one of the most successful blockbusters in history but also outshone the highly anticipated and more sophisticated film Lagaan, despite both being released on the same day, June 15, 2001. Now, Zee Studios, the producers of Gadar, have made plans to re-release Gadar: Ek Prem Katha two months prior to the release of its sequel, scheduled for August. This decision showcases the studio’s confidence in the enduring popularity and appeal of the original film.

Remastered And With Additional Scenes

Zee Studios has undertaken a remarkable endeavor to completely re-master the original film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, investing a substantial sum of Rs. 2 crores. The re-mastered version not only enhances the viewing experience but also includes additional scenes that were not present in the film’s original release. The refurbished Gadar will be released in a limited number of theaters on Friday, with the possibility of increasing the number of screenings based on the audience’s response to the film. This initiative showcases Zee Studios’ commitment to providing audiences with an enhanced and enriched cinematic experience.

Anil Sharma’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha narrates the sweeping tale of Tara Singh, a Sikh truck driver portrayed by Sunny Deol, who falls deeply in love with Sakeena, played by Ameesha Patel. Sakeena hails from a family believed to have perished during the Partition, but she eventually marries Tara and begins a new chapter in her life. However, she later discovers that her family is alive in Pakistan. When she travels to Pakistan to reunite with her parents, her father Ashraf Ali, portrayed by Amrish Puri, disapproves of her marriage to Tara and confines her. In response to Sakeena’s plight, Tara embarks on a journey to Pakistan with their son, determined to bring her back.

Zee Studios exhibits great confidence in their product, and they eagerly await the audience’s reaction to this remarkable narrative.

A Zee spokesperson, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that Gadar is a movie that has not become outdated. With the improved sound and visuals in the remastered version, the film is expected to attract both its existing fans and new viewers. The spokesperson expressed confidence that the enhancements made to the film’s presentation will appeal to a wider audience and bring in new viewers who may not have seen it before.
