Emraan Hashmi And Genelia Deshmukh’S Gunmaaster G9 Eyes October 16 Dussehra Release

Dussehra may well become the stage for Emraan Hashmi’s return to full-throttle commercial cinema. Gunmaaster G9, which pairs him with Genelia Deshmukh and Aparshakti Khurana, is being lined up for an October 16 theatrical release, with the festive corridor seen as the ideal launchpad for an action masala entertainer designed to tap into Hashmi’s old-school mainstream appeal.

Why The Dussehra Corridor Matters For Gunmaaster G9

Producer Deepak Mukut has confirmed that October 16 is the primary release target, while October 9 is also under consideration. Explaining the thinking, he said, “We are looking at releasing in the Dussehra week, on October 16. There’s no other release scheduled for the next three weeks, which would give us an advantage. We are also looking at bringing our film to cinemas on October 9.”

Mukut also made it clear that the film is being positioned for audiences who associate Hashmi with slick, high-energy commercial entertainers, while also aiming to pull in younger moviegoers. That strategy comes after a difficult theatrical outing for The Bhootnii, which Mukut said lost momentum in the marketplace during its clash with Raid 2. Recalling the release challenge, he said, “Since PVR Inox was the distributor of Raid 2, it got priority, while my film didn’t get sufficient shows.” He added that The Bhootnii earned around Rs. 10 crores and felt it could have performed better with wider showcasing.

The producer also shared that the team is now preparing for a car chase sequence in Mumbai before moving to Uttarakhand and Delhi for the June schedule. He had special praise for Genelia Deshmukh’s performance, saying, “Genelia Desmukh is superb in the film and I appreciate the hard work she has done. Riteish praised us and told us, ‘You have given her a superb role’.” The update adds another layer of curiosity around the film, especially since it is shaping up as a star-led theatrical play mounted in a distinctly mainstream zone.

A Festive Release Fuels Hashmi’S Commercial Reset

Emraan Hashmi’s recent screen run has moved across both streaming and theatrical spaces. In 2024, he made a special appearance in Ae Watan Mere Watan. That was followed by the theatrical release Ground Zero in April 2025, while 2025 also saw him feature in Netflix’s The Ba*ds of Bollywood. Together, those projects kept him active across formats, but Gunmaaster G9 is positioned very differently, as a big festive release built around his core Hindi film star image.

His upcoming slate strengthens that big-screen push. Awarapan 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on April 3, 2026, reviving one of his most remembered titles, while the Telugu film G2 is also listed for 2026. In that mix, Gunmaaster G9 stands out as a key Hindi theatrical move, not least because it reunites Hashmi with director Aditya Datt and gives Genelia Deshmukh a prominently backed role in the film’s commercial setup.
