Has Sunny Deol Abandoned Smaller Films After Gadar 2 Success? Report Claims Deepak Mukut’s Soorya Shelved After 80% Shoot, Ahmed Khan’s Baap Stalled

Sunny Deol is reportedly focusing on big-budget films after Gadar 2, leaving smaller projects like Soorya and Baap stuck in limbo.

The career of Sunny Deol is booming again after the massive success of Gadar 2. The film’s blockbuster run has not only revived his star power but also secured him multiple big-budget projects. However, this shift in focus has come at a cost.

Reports suggest that Deol has put his smaller commitments aside, leaving films like Soorya and Baap in limbo.

Sunny Deol Starrer Soorya Shelved After Years Of Uncertainty

As per a Peeping Moon report, Deepak Mukut’s crime thriller Soorya has reportedly been shelved indefinitely. The film, which is nearly 80% complete, has been stuck for almost three years while waiting for Deol’s availability. With no updates on its progress, the cast and crew have moved on.

A source close to the project revealed that Deol began shooting Soorya in January 2022 in Rajasthan and completed most of it in two schedules. However, financial problems halted production. After that, he turned his attention to Gadar 2, which became a huge success. Mukut made multiple attempts to restart the project, but it never resumed.

Several factors might explain Deol’s reluctance to finish Soorya. After Gadar 2’s record-breaking success, he is now prioritising large-scale commercial films over smaller thrillers. Soorya is also a remake of the Malayalam film Joseph. With Bollywood remakes struggling at the box office recently, Deol reportedly doubts its potential. Sources claim he also believes the film has lost its relevance for a theatrical release.

Ahmed Khan’s Baap Also On Hold

The report further mentioned that Ahmed Khan’s Baap (an action-packed film starring Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, and Jackie Shroff) is facing a similar fate. Marketed as Bollywood’s version of The Expendables, the film started production in June 2022 but remains unfinished. While most of the shooting is complete, a dance sequence featuring all four actors is still pending. Scheduling conflicts have made it difficult to reunite the cast, pushing the project into indefinite delay.

Sunny Deol: Work Front

On the work front, Sunny Deol remains busy with major upcoming films. He will next be seen in Gopichand Malineni’s action entertainer Jaat, set to release on April 10. He is also part of Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947 and Anurag Singh’s Border 2.

Additionally, he will play Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic Ramayana. The actor will be joining Ranbir Kapoor on the sets after wrapping up Border 2.

With his focus now on grand-scale films, it seems unlikely that Deol will return to smaller projects anytime soon.
