Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Haseena Maan Jaayegi 2 is currently in development, with Smita Thackeray backing the project and Farhad Samji coming on board as writer and director. The film is said to retain the comic spirit of the original while revamping the story to suit contemporary sensibilities.
As per the development, the scripting is underway “in full swing,” with the makers planning to move to the casting stage by March 2026. The report also states that the team initially explored the idea of making the sequel with original director David Dhawan, but the veteran filmmaker was not keen on revisiting another of his past films. Farhad Samji reportedly joined the project after seeking Dhawan’s blessings.
While casting details are being kept tightly under wraps at this stage, the stated intention is to mount the sequel with two major actors from the current generation, aiming to recreate the comedic appeal of the original without treating it like a scene by scene rehash.
