Hera Pheri 3 Row: Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films Serves ₹25 Cr Legal Notice to Paresh Rawal Over Abrupt Withdrawal
Hera Pheri 3 has been put into question after the shocking exit of veteran actor Paresh Rawal, who was set to reprise his iconic role of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte, as part of the film directed by Farhad Samji. In a major legal triggering event, Akshay Kumar’s production house, Cape of Good Films, is said to have issued a legal notice seeking ₹25 crores in damages for breach of contract.
Lawyer Verifies Legal Threat, Calls It a “Unilateral Withdrawal”
Lawyer Pooja Tidke, representing Cape of Good Films, confirmed that a legal notice was served to Mr Rawal. Stating reasons for economic and contractual ramifications of Mr Rawal’s exit.
There were contracts entered into. Shooting of the trailer had started. Paresh ji had tweeted in January, confirming his association with the film. About three and half minutes of footage was already done.
According to Pooja Tidke, Paresh ji’s unilateral withdrawal in May disrupted synchronised schedules and caused huge financial losses when the whole production had to pay fees to ensorcel the most reputable actors, pay to break down sequences into logistical networks, and queue the equipment.
Paresh Rawal’s Departure Caught Cast and Crew Unawares
Rawal disclosed that he was no longer participating in the project — a remark that “came as a rude shock”, said Tidke. The crew had already paid him ₹11 lakhs, and they were shooting ahead based on his signed contract.
“This is about the loss due to a unilateral pull back after a contract was signed. Trailers were shot and partially released. Everybody’s professional life is now out of balance,” she lamented.
Legal Window was Open but Still Reconciling
The legal notice allegedly gave Rawal seven days to respond. As of this moment, there has been no formal reply or any advancing escalation. Tidke suggested there have been discussions behind closed doors, saying:
“We anticipate something amicable. It is a beloved franchise. Everyone wants it resolved, even the fans.”
While die-hard fans of the Hera Pheri franchise can’t help but hold out hope for resolution, behind-the-scenes turmoil is overshadowing one of India’s most celebrated comedy trilogies.

BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict
The journey of Hera Pheri 3 has gone from hope to a legal matter. Undeniably, Paresh Rawal’s exit has thrown the project into disarray, but we can at least hope that reason prevails or agreements can be made soon enough — if not for the production’s sake, then for the franchise and its enormous following.
If this is not mediated soon, it may not only bring irreparable harm to the contracts, but it could potentially destroy one of Bollywood’s most beloved comedic trios’ legacy.
