Imran Khan has opened up about his thoughts on old Bollywood films, which are brutally honest. In a recent chat, he spoke about how some 90s movies feel uncomfortable now. One film he pointed to was Raja Hindustani, starring his uncle Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor.
Imran Khan Says Raja Hindustani Is Uncomfortable To Watch
Speaking to Filmfare, he said, “There are some of his 90s films that have not aged well, and when you look at them through a modern lens, they are kind of problematic. There are moments that are quite uncomfortable. Raja Hindustani, which was a staggering hit, is very uncomfortable to watch. You look at it and you go, ‘This is wrong; we are not supposed to…so there are a fair amount of 90s films that are uncomfortable by today’s measures”
For the unversed, this 1996 film was directed by Dharmesh Darshan and followed a love story between a cab driver and a wealthy woman. The film was a massive success back in the day, known for its music and drama. But for Imran, it doesn’t land the same way today.
He believes many 90s films have similar issues. From outdated gender roles to awkward storytelling, he thinks a lot of them don’t work in today’s world. He called them “uncomfortable by today’s measures.”
Imran Still Admires Aamir Khan
Even though he pointed out these problems, Imran still has a lot of respect for Aamir. He said, “I am tremendously led by him. Through life, whenever I am facing a dilemma, I think, ‘What would Aamir do?’ I may not exactly approach it in the same way as him… but at its core, he has always been driven by integrity and authenticity.”
Imran made his debut in 2008 with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and was last seen in Katti Batti in 2015. He recently announced a comeback with a Disney+ Hotstar spy series, but the project ended up getting cancelled.
