Yesterday, Akshay Kumar announced the fifth installment of the popular comedy franchise, Housefull 5. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and is directed by Tarun Mansukhani. Started in 2010 by Sajid Khan, Housefull has grown to become of the most commercially successful franchises in Bollywood. But it will be at loggerheads with another film franchise in the theatres.
Recently, it was announced that Kartik Aaryan‘s horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will be released on Diwali 2024, the same day as Housefull 5. It is sure shot that both films will eat into each other’s audiences. Housefull will be the first Indian franchise to have five installments, and its track record proves that it will give a tough fight to Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa is also one of the most successful franchises in Bollywood. The first film itself starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role. For the second one, the audiences were apprehensive if Kartik would be able to fill Akshay’s shoes or not. But Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 turned out to be a surprise hit.
However, in the past there have been instances of two big films releasing in the cinema on the eve of Diwali and both of them turned out to be profitable ventures. Case in point in 2012, when Shah Rukh Khan‘s Jab Tak Hai Jaan clashed with Ajay Devgn‘s Son of Sardar. Similarly, in 2016, Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was at loggerheads with Shivaay during Diwali. All these films were superhits.

Akshay Kumar And Kartik Aaryan’s Upcoming Films
Akshay Kumar has several films in his pipeline, including The Great Indian Rescue, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Housefull 5, and OMG 2 among others. Kartik, on the other hand, was recently seen in the romantic drama Satyaprem Ki Katha with Kiara Advani. He might feature in Kabir Khan’s next biopic on RAW agent Ravindra Kaushik as well as Captain India and Aashiqui 3.
