A fresh pairing, a sunlit Goan backdrop, and an 80s time capsule vibe are coming together in Shanaya Kapoor and Abhay Verma’s next big-screen outing. As of February 27, 2026, the romantic comedy that had been doing the rounds under its working title has finally snapped into place with an official name, giving the project a clearer identity as it moves through post-production.
With both actors firmly in the spotlight for different reasons, the film’s title reveal also signals that the makers are beginning to line up the next phase of the rollout, especially after wrapping a brisk Goa schedule last year.
Latest Update: The Film’s Full Title Is Jacob Cardoso
Producer Vikesh Bhutani has confirmed that Shanaya Kapoor and Abhay Verma’s film is officially titled Jacob Cardoso. Speaking about the setting and flavour, Bhutani described it as a period caper and said it is “a beautiful film set in Goa, around the time when it was becoming a state.” The Shujaat Saudagar directorial is set in 1987 and is positioned as a comedy with a romantic track at its heart.
The film went on floors in March 2025 and wrapped its principal photography in about two months, with the entire schedule mounted in Goa. As of now, the project is in its final stages of post-production, while the theatrical release date is still awaited.
Saudagar’s involvement is another notable piece of this package. He has previously directed Rock On 2 and also helmed the crime series Bambai Meri Jaan, making Jacob Cardoso a tonal shift into lighter, nostalgia-driven territory.
The film is backed by Chalkboard Entertainment, in collaboration with Vauve Emirates and Karma Media and Entertainment.

For Shanaya Kapoor, the title reveal lands in a busy phase. She made her theatrical debut with Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan (2025), co-starring Vikrant Massey, and then appeared in Tu Yaa Main, opposite Adarsh Gourav, which released on February 13, 2026.
Abhay Verma broke out with Maddock’s Munjya (2024) and also featured in Ae Watan Mere Watan (2024). On the forward slate, he has the theatrical film Laikey Laikaa lined up for Summer 2026, starring opposite Rasha Thadani. He is also attached to Shah Rukh Khan’s King.
