Jailer 2 Shoot Hit By Tragedy As Crew Member Dies Of Electrocution On Rajinikanth Film Set

What should have been another high-voltage day on the set of Jailer 2 turned into a moment of grief after a 28-year-old crew member died of electrocution during the Rajinikanth-starrer’s shoot in Kerala. The accident has cast a sombre shadow over one of Tamil cinema’s most closely watched productions.

The deceased was identified as Ranjith, a native of Sholavandan in Tamil Nadu, who was part of the film unit during the ongoing schedule. Following the incident, his body was sent for postmortem, and local police initiated the formal procedures connected to the accidental death.

Tragedy Overshadows The Kerala Shoot

The loss has now overtaken the conversation around Jailer 2, a film that had generated strong anticipation because it marks Rajinikanth’s return to the world of Jailer, one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of 2023. With work underway in Kerala, the production was in the middle of a key schedule when the accident occurred.

The film reunites Rajinikanth with director Nelson Dilipkumar and producer Sun Pictures, the team behind the first instalment’s huge success. That earlier film, released in 2023, emerged as a major box office winner and grossed over ₹600 crore worldwide, turning Rajinikanth’s intense turn as “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian into a crowd-pulling theatrical event.

Music for the sequel is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with Vijay Kartik Kannan as cinematographer and R. Nirmal as editor. The film is scheduled to release on June 12, 2026. The original Jailer followed a retired jailer who is forced back into a brutal conflict after his family comes under threat.

Where Jailer 2 Sits In Rajinikanth’s Current Run

The accident comes at a time when Rajinikanth’s film choices have kept him firmly in the zone of large-scale theatrical titles. After Jailer in 2023, he appeared in Lal Salaam in 2024 in an extended cameo as D.G. Mohideen, and then led Vettaiyan in 2024 under T.J. Gnanavel’s direction.

He also featured in Coolie in 2025, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, continuing a phase built around high-visibility big-screen projects. In that line-up, Jailer 2 stands as a major continuation of his current career momentum, which makes the tragedy on set all the more heartbreaking for the production and those working on it.
