Jana Nayagan is facing unexpected hurdles just days before its scheduled release. The film is set to be reviewed by a fresh CBFC committee, creating uncertainty over its January 9 release date. The makers moved the Madras High Court on Tuesday, January 6, seeking relief, but the hearing was adjourned until Wednesday afternoon.
During the hearing, the court reportedly asked why the film’s release could not be postponed. This question has left fans and theatre owners worried about the fate of Thalapathy Vijay‘s final theatrical outing before his full-fledged political entry.
Advance Bookings Remain Limited
While advance bookings for Jana Nayagan have opened in some states in a limited capacity, most theatres in Tamil Nadu have yet to commence ticket sales. The uncertainty over CBFC certification has forced exhibitors to hold back on opening bookings fully.
Fans remain hopeful that the film will hit screens on the scheduled date and are going all out to keep the buzz high. However, the delay in certification has dampened the excitement that usually surrounds a Thalapathy release.
Parasakthi Also Faces Similar Issues
Interestingly, Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, directed by Sudha Kongara, is also reportedly facing similar certification challenges. The film is scheduled to release on January 10, creating a Pongal clash with Jana Nayagan. Both films are now caught in CBFC delays just ahead of the festive season.
Reports suggest that Parasakthi‘s trailer has actually garnered more views than Jana Nayagan‘s trailer. While Jana Nayagan‘s Tamil trailer amassed 40 million views and 1.3 million likes in three days on YouTube, Parasakthi‘s trailer received 43 million views in less than two days.
Fan Rivalry Intensifies Over Theatre Choices
The clash between the two films has intensified fan rivalries. Theatre owner Vasu Cinemas in Kumbakonam faced online abuse from Vijay fans after announcing they would screen Parasakthi instead of Jana Nayagan. The theatre released a statement urging fans to reflect on the level of abuse and vulgarity directed at them.
The theatre noted that they have screened most of Vijay’s films over the years and that choosing one particular film does not reduce their respect for the superstar.
