After weeks of cyber tracking following the April leak of footage from the unreleased Tamil film, the Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing has arrested the alleged mastermind behind the illegal online circulation in Chennai. The latest arrest was made on June 10, with officials securing the alleged mastermind and another accused in connection with the unauthorised access, copying, transmission and circulation of confidential footage from Jana Nayagan. The case was registered on April 11 after representatives of the production house filed a complaint over the leak, which had spread across social media and messaging platforms.
According to authorities, the accused had been absconding and actively evading law enforcement agencies. Investigators tracked him down through “extensive digital forensic analysis, technical surveillance and intelligence-led operations.”
The development takes the total number of arrests in the Jana Nayagan leak case to 19. Earlier, 17 accused had been arrested at different stages of the investigation. The latest action is being viewed as a major breakthrough because the newly arrested accused was identified as a key figure in making the leaked footage available to the public.
