Janhvi Kapoor’s Post Release Silence On Peddi Draws Attention As Director Confirms Edits After Backlash

Janhvi Kapoor’s silence around Peddi after its theatrical release has become a talking point at exactly the moment the film’s portrayal of her character is under scrutiny. The actress was visible during the pre release leg of the Ram Charan starrer, but her lack of post release social media push has stood out as criticism around Achiyyamma, her character in the film, gathered momentum online.

The conversation has sharpened because the makers have now acknowledged the backlash. Director Buchi Babu Sana has addressed criticism over scenes featuring Janhvi and confirmed that changes are being made to the concerned portions of the film. Kapoor, however, has not issued a public statement connecting her post release silence to the controversy.

Buchi Babu Sana Confirms Changes In Peddi

Buchi Babu Sana responded after a section of viewers criticised the film for its treatment of Janhvi Kapoor’s character. In an interaction around the criticism, he said, “I had not anticipated that the scenes would be perceived so negatively by audiences.”

Explaining the intention behind the romantic track, he added, “The idea was to showcase a playful romance story between Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. However, we’ll be more careful and make better representations.”

The director also addressed the issue publicly on X, where he said cinema should “entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences” and not make anyone feel “uncomfortable or disrespected”. He further stated, “Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values.”

That statement has become the clearest official response so far. While social media users have linked Janhvi’s quiet post release presence to the backlash, the actress has not made any public comment confirming such a connection.

What Peddi Is About

Peddi is a Telugu sports action drama directed by Buchi Babu Sana, with Ram Charan leading the cast and Janhvi Kapoor playing Achiyyamma. The film also features key supporting names from Telugu and Indian cinema, and is associated with Vriddhi Cinemas, with Mythri Movie Makers and Sukumar Writings presenting the project.

The film is built around a rural sports backdrop and follows its central character through conflict, identity and ambition. Its release has brought both star driven attention and a sharp debate over representation, particularly around the visual treatment of Janhvi’s role.

Janhvi Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Janhvi Kapoor has been in a clear expansion phase across Hindi and Telugu cinema. In 2024, she appeared in Devara: Part 1, a major Telugu release headlined by Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan.

Her 2025 slate included Homebound, Param Sundari opposite Sidharth Malhotra, and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Varun Dhawan. In 2026, Peddi added another big South film to her filmography, placing her again in the centre of a pan India conversation, this time for reasons beyond the usual box office and star pairing debate.
