Siddharth Anand’s upcoming film Jewel Thief: The Red Sun Chapter is adding two new dance numbers and reshooting a few scenes, even though the main shoot had wrapped up months ago.
The movie, starring Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, was thought to be finished after filming in Budapest and Mumbai. But now, it seems like the production is far from over.
Siddharth Anand Wants 2 New Songs & A Reshoot For Some Key Scenes
The film’s original director, Robbie Grewal, had completed his work after a packed schedule. However, producer and writer Siddharth Anand decided that some parts of the film needed a little more polish.
Sources told mid-day that Anand felt the addition of two new dance sequences would boost the film’s appeal. So, Kookie Gulati, known for The Big Bull, was brought in to direct these extra scenes.
The decision to make these changes wasn’t easy. Grewal had already dived into post-production, confident that the film was tight enough. But Anand felt a few tweaks and added music would enhance its impact.
A source explained, “The team completed the patchwork by June. But recently, Siddharth felt that some scenes needed to be revisited to up the heist thriller’s slick feel. He also was of the opinion that two more songs would enhance its appeal.”
“While Robbie felt the existing cut is pacy and slick enough, he understood the producer’s need to make it more appealing to the audience with the new numbers. So, for now, Robbie is focusing on the post-production while Siddharth has roped in Kookie to film the additional parts,” added the source.
Here’s Why Robbie Grewal Is Not Directing The Additional Portion
The change in directors for these additional scenes was due to scheduling conflicts. Grewal was already committed to another Amazon project, so he couldn’t shoot the new portions. Grewal explained, “We were to shoot [these portions] in August, but it got pushed to November. Since I was already committed to an Amazon show in this [window], I couldn’t do it. Kookie was kind enough to step in and help us out”
Gulati, who has directed over 300 music videos, was seen as the perfect fit for the job. The first new dance number will be shot this weekend in Alibaug, featuring Saif Ali Khan and Nikita Dutta. The scenes will combine drama and action, aligning with Anand’s new vision. Choreographers Shazia Samji and Piyush Bhagat will bring their creative touch to the dance sequences.
A second dance number will be filmed later this month at Mehboob Studios, with the entire cast on set. You can also look forward to a fresh look from Saif Ali Khan, who has grown out his hair and beard for the reshoots to match his character’s rugged appearance.
