Jio Studios Issues Public Notice Against Ali Abbas Zafar: Claims First And Paramount Lien On All Commercial Earnings Of Filmmaker

In a major development that has caught the attention of the film industry, Jio Studios has issued a public notice regarding its contractual rights connected to Ali Abbas Zafar Films LLP and filmmaker Ali Abbas Zafar. The notice was published on January 17, 2026 in Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine through King Stubb and Kasiva, Advocates and Attorneys.

This unexpected move has raised many questions about what might have gone wrong between the two parties.

What Does The Public Notice Say

According to the notice, Jio Studios holds a first and paramount lien on all incomes, revenues, receipts, proceeds and earnings of Ali Abbas Zafar Films LLP. This lien has been in effect since September 30, 2025. The notice states that this applies to earnings of whatever nature and in whatever form, whether present or future.

The most interesting part is that this lien is not restricted only to projects made with Jio Studios. It covers earnings from a wide range of media and entertainment activities linked to both the LLP and the filmmaker in his individual capacity.

Lien Extends To All Future Projects

The public notice makes it clear that the claim extends to projects undertaken through other entities as well. This includes entities where the LLP’s designated partners or directors have a stake. The notice even covers entities that may be incorporated in the future.

The lien is described as absolute, continuing and enforceable. It will remain in force until full discharge of all outstanding obligations owed to Jio Studios, along with applicable interest.

Industry Participants Advised To Take Note

Jio Studios has advised all producers, studios, financiers, OTT platforms, broadcasters, talent agencies and other industry participants to take note of this lien. The notice calls upon stakeholders to inform Jio Studios before finalizing or giving effect to any commercial arrangement with the concerned parties.

The notice ends by stating that Jio Studios reserves the right to enforce the lien and pursue remedies as available under applicable law.

About The Association Between Ali Abbas Zafar And Jio Studios

Ali Abbas Zafar collaborated with Jio Studios for Bloody Daddy in 2023. The Shahid Kapoor starrer was released directly on JioCinema and was produced by Jio Studios along with AAZ Films and others. The action entertainer was directed by Ali Abbas Zafar himself. More details about the situation are awaited.
