John Abraham urges to stop selling live animals online. The actor sent a letter urging e-retailer Quikr to stop trading in live animals.
“By allowing dogs, cats, and other animals to be traded via your platform, Quikr is putting animals at risk of being cruelly housed and transported as well as being obtained by abusive people or impulse shoppers who are simply not prepared to provide them with lifelong care,” wrote John in the letter. Will you please join the ranks of OLX India and other leading websites by banning advertisements for live animals?” the leather reads.
According to the actor these platform claims to offer “adoptions”, however, adoption can only be ensured by working with reputable and registered animal protection NGOs. These NGOs makes sure that the adopters are prepared to give a lifelong home to animals. It has been observed that many adopted animals have been abandoned after being obtained on impulse through pet shops, breeders, or websites like Quikr.
Previously, John urged the Government to take action against people who show cruelty to strays & pets.
He wrote, “A petty Rs 50 fine is imposed if you kill, maim or do any act of cruelty to strays & pets today. Fines & jailtime should be starting at 3 months/Rs 50,000 & beyond as per cruelty.”
